IN THE CLASSROOM Students returning to school had few records, and grade level placements were not always possible. For students traumatized by family deaths and displacement, concentration on work was also frequently a challenge. But gradually classrooms settled in with new teachers. An exercise on the first day was to map out where the children had been staying during the time of evacuation, before they returned to New Orleans.
