BOSTAN SCHOOL - SAVE THE CHILDREN Save the Children works with several schools in the remote villages north of Kabul, on the mountain slopes that border the Shomali Plain. These community schools are partly supported by the local governments, but depend on other assistance for help with teachers and supplies. These pictures are from the opening day ceremonies in the spring of 2008. Officials, teachers and students all made presentations, and the head of the parents’ association, himself an illiterate farmer, gave a passionate plea to expand education for both boys and girls.
