Since her retirement from a career in the administration of public and private programs to improve the futures of children in the District of Columbia, she has been able to pursue both photography and international travel. Her journeys have taken her to many countries in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East. Her purpose is always to meet and talk to people, and photograph them at home, at work or in performance in natural and traditional settings. She is particularly interested in young people, and often donates proceeds from the sale of her photographs to the D.C. Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, which she co-founded in Washington, D.C., or to organizations with whom she is working. She was invited to New Orleans in January, 2006, to document the return of students whose homes and school had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina to the reopened New Orleans High School of Math and Science. Those images are now featured by the New Orleans Charter School Association in their office and publications. Her fine art photography has been exhibited in art galleries, restaurants and community centers in Washington, D.C., and in Marin County, California. As a former Peace Corps staff member in Nigeria for three years, her photos have also been used in Peace Corps publications. Sierra Magazine published her images of California in 2005. In 2008 she had an extraordinary opportunity to visit non-profit organizations serving women and children in Afghanistan. This inspired her to publish a photo book about the work of those organizations, to assist them in gaining visibility and support. Click here to lean more about her book, "Another Afghanistan." |
